- Nothing is uploaded. The counter, the conversions and the typing test all run in this browser tab.
- Character counts show what you see. Platforms count UTF-16 code units, so an emoji such as 🙂 counts as two — paste into the target field to be certain.
- Reading time assumes 220 words a minute for prose; technical or legal text is slower, closer to 150.

About the text tools
Four small writing tools that people reach for constantly, on one page: a counter, a case converter, a cleaner, and a typing test. Everything runs locally in your browser, so text you paste into the counter, a personal message or a paragraph of an unpublished draft, is never uploaded anywhere.
The counter reports words, characters with and without spaces, sentences, paragraphs, and an estimated reading time based on the 200–250 words per minute that adult readers manage for ordinary prose. Social platforms count characters differently — most treat a URL as a fixed length and emoji as two UTF-16 code units — so the counter shows both the raw count and the code-unit count used by most platform limits.
The case converter handles the formats you need for titles, headings, variable names and file names, while the cleaner collapses stray spaces, removes blank lines and strips the smart quotes that break code. The typing test measures raw and adjusted words per minute over sixty seconds.
Frequently asked questions
How many words is a page?
A typical A4 page of double-spaced academic text is about 250–300 words. A single-spaced page is roughly 500 words, and a standard cover letter or application essay is usually 300–400 words.
How long does it take to read 1,000 words?
About four to five minutes for an adult reading for comprehension. Technical material, code and legal text run slower, closer to 150 words per minute, which is why the estimate is a range rather than a single figure.
Why does the character count differ from what Twitter or Instagram says?
Platforms count UTF-16 code units, not visible characters. An emoji such as 🙂 is one character you see but two units to the platform, and a URL is often counted as a fixed 23 characters regardless of its length. The counter shows both numbers so you can see which limit you are up against.
What is a good typing speed?
The average adult types around 40 words per minute. Sixty is comfortably productive for office work, 80 is fast, and competitive typists pass 120. Accuracy matters more than raw speed, which is why the test also reports an adjusted score that penalises errors.
Is my text uploaded when I paste it?
No. Every tool on this page runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Nothing is sent to a server, which is what makes it safe for unpublished drafts and private messages.
