Inclusive and exclusive are not the same number
Removing GST is a division, not a subtraction. ₹1,18,000.00 inclusive at 18% has a taxable value of ₹1,00,000.00 — subtracting 18% from the total would give ₹96,760.00, which understates the tax you owe.

What this assumes
  • One rate is applied to the whole invoice. A mixed-rate invoice needs a line per rate, and this generator produces a single-line invoice.
  • The PDF is generated in your browser — nothing is uploaded, and no draft invoice is stored anywhere.
  • A tax invoice must also carry a consecutive serial number, the place of supply and, where applicable, the reverse-charge declaration. Add anything your buyer needs before issuing it.
  • GST rates and HSN/SAC classifications change. Confirm the rate for your specific goods or services on the GST portal before raising the invoice.

About the gst calculator & invoice generator

GST in India is charged on the value of the supply, and the same rate is split in half between CGST and SGST for a sale inside one state — so an 18% intra-state sale is 9% CGST plus 9% SGST. For an inter-state sale the whole amount becomes IGST instead.

The calculator works in both directions. Add GST when you know the price before tax and need the invoice total; remove GST when you have an inclusive price and need to recover the taxable value and the tax inside it. Removing GST is not simply subtracting a percentage — the tax has to be divided out, which is why the two directions give different numbers for the same rate.

The invoice generator turns the result into a proper tax invoice with your business details, the buyer's details, the HSN or SAC code and the tax split, then downloads it as a PDF you can email or print.

Frequently asked questions

How do I remove GST from an inclusive price?

Divide the inclusive amount by 1 plus the rate. For 18%, divide by 1.18: a ₹1,180 inclusive price gives a taxable value of ₹1,000 and ₹180 of GST. Subtracting 18% from ₹1,180 would wrongly give ₹967.60.

What is the difference between CGST, SGST and IGST?

For a supply inside one state, the GST rate is split equally: half is CGST, collected by the centre, and half is SGST or UTGST, collected by the state. For a supply between two states the full rate is charged as IGST instead, and the selling state does not keep any of it.

Which GST rate applies to my goods or services?

Most services are 18%, most mass-consumption goods are 5% or 12%, and luxury and sin goods sit at 28%. Some items are nil-rated or exempt, and a few have special rates. The exact rate for your HSN or SAC code is listed on the GST portal, and it is worth confirming before you raise the invoice.

What must a GST invoice contain?

A tax invoice needs a consecutive serial number, the date, your name, address and GSTIN, the buyer's name and GSTIN when they are registered, the HSN or SAC code, the description and quantity, the taxable value, the rate and amount split into CGST, SGST or IGST, and the total value with the place of supply.

Do I need a GSTIN to raise an invoice?

You can issue a normal invoice without one, but you can only charge GST and show a tax invoice if you are GST-registered. This tool prints whatever GSTIN you enter, so leave it blank if you are not registered and it will be omitted.
